Add Buy/Shop functionality to site

Hi Campers,

I recently put together a website for my mom’s paintings. I want to add the ability for users to purchase paintings via the website, but I am not sure what to learn in order to do this. I have a vague idea that it would involve one of two things:

• A backend language and a database, with a 3rd party API for processing credit cards

OR

• A third party embedded something

What should I learn to accomplish this, or what are my options if there are different paths to choose?
