Contributors Meetup [Online Hangout] - June 2019

Hi!

Let do a contributors meetup online?

Right now, all of the freeCodeCamp team (except Abbey and Beau) are in Hong Kong for the week. We could all join a hangout with you all share some updates and get some feedback on goals and progress so far.

Dates and time: June 27, 2019 3:00 AM → 4:00 AM.
Location: Invite only online Google Hangout (limited attendees).

You can ask anything to the freeCodeCamp Staff members, moderators or contributors. Share ideas and feedback or tell us about something fun that you have been working on.

Bring your :coffee: (or ) and we will have some fun.

Sound good? RSVP to this event just below the topic title on this page.

Join Our Contributors Chat room for queries and updates.

Note:

Due to time/bandwidth constraints and making the hangout productive we can send out invites only to a limited no of people. If you RSVP, we request you to make sure and join the call. This makes it so that interested people don’t miss out.

We will still share offline updates on all our community channels.

Happy contributing!

We will be sending out invites in your forum inbox via a private message. You will be able to follow the link in the same message to join us anytime during the event slot.

Looking forward to see you.

  • Everyone on the call introduced themselves.
  • The staff shared what we have been working on recently.
  • We shared details of our team meet-up here at Hong Kong.
  • We shared key 2019 goals for the next couple months:
    1. Guides:
We are moving the guides back from the codebase to the forum. This is to facilitate the quick turnaround time in updating the guides, making things more free flowing, in-context searchable on the community forum.
    2. Hacktoberfest updates.
    3. Shipping Master:
Master is being rolled out on beta, as of the end of this week, then on we do a week’s worth of internal testing and ship it out by the week after that.
    4. Portfolios:
We are overhauling the portfolios to be more like a page, that our users can use to showcase their skills vs just a timeline of challenges. This newer “Developer portfolio” will be having projects that users have worked on. This will be pulling in contribution badges earned on freeCodeCamp’s community forum, (in future from GitHub and StackOverflow as well).
  • We shared updates about freeCodeCamp swag that we have been working on.
  • We took questions and feedback on the on going and future plans.

Thanks everyone who joined on the call. It was a very productive meeting, and it was awesome as always getting caught up with you all.
