I took the ideas in this post, and translated it to PHP for my Google Analytics plugin for WordPress, called CAOS. Since it already downloads the analytics.js-file automatically, the next step (to provide a proxy to Google Analytics) was the logical thing to do!

One thing I missed in this post, was that Google updates analytics.js very often, so instead of only downloading it, a script should be created which updates (and then provides the replacements) the analytics.js-file.
