Tell us what’s happening:
I am lost after reviewing lots of different
ways to fix the errors in my code.

Your code so far

<style>
  h4 {
    text-align: center;
    background-color: rgba(45, 45, 45, 0.1);
    padding: 10px;
    font-size: 27px;
  }
  p {
    text-align: justify;
  }
  .links {
    text-align: left;
    color: black;
  }
  {
  #thumbnail
  box-shadow: 0 10px 20px rgba(0,0,0,0.19), 0 6px 6px rgba(0,0,0,0.23);
}

  .fullCard {
    width: 245px;
    border: 1px solid #ccc;
    border-radius: 5px;
    margin: 10px 5px;
    padding: 4px;
  }
  .cardContent {
    padding: 10px;
  }
  .cardText {
    margin-bottom: 30px;
  }
  }

</style>
<div class="fullCard" id="thumbnail">
  }
  <div class="cardContent">
    <div class="cardText">
      <h4>Alphabet</h4>
      <hr>
      <p><em>Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were <u>Ph.D. students</u> at <strong>Stanford University</strong>.</em></p>
    </div>
    <div class="cardLinks">
      <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Page" target="_blank" class="links">Larry Page</a><br><br>
      <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergey_Brin" target="_blank" class="links">Sergey Brin</a>
    </div>
  </div>

I am trying to add a box-shadow to the card like element. I have reviewed others tips and watched videos and I still can’t get it correct after an hour and a half.

#3

You should review how to define a id selector. You are missing something very important. Look at the other selectors (class and element) and see if you can spot the difference.

#4

You are targeting the element with thumbnail id inside the style declarations. You need to take it out like this instead.

#thumbnail {
  ...
}
#5

#thumbnail {
box-shadow: 0 10px 20px rgba(0,0,0,0.19), 0 6px 6px rgba(0,0,0,0.23);
}

This is what I have and I still don’t understand. Perhaps there is another problem somewhere else.

#6

Your code is passing for me.

Are you using Edge? If so try Chrome or Firefox instead.

#7

Thanks lasjorg. I switched to chrome and my code now works. A positive outcome of the browser difficulties is that I read a lot about selectors.

#8

Use
#thumbnail{
box-shadow: 0 10px 20px
rgba(0,0,0,0.19),
0 6px 6px rgba(0,0,0,0.23);
}
instead of
{
#thumbnail
box-shadow: 0 10px 20px
rgba(0,0,0,0.19),
0 6px 6px rgba(0,0,0,0.23);
}
