Hello!
As a beginner, I use a few external resources and tutorials to help me understand some concepts that I found difficult to grasp. In between projects, I followed these tutorials, among others. I figured I would share with you the ones that I really liked!
Some of those tutorials take many hours to complete, but they helped me tremendously. Especially around the JSON and Ajax challenges, I began to feel that I didn’t fully understand what I was doing and why I was doing it, so I started reading a lot. Unfortunately I didn’t keep track of all the articles I read on JSON and Ajax, but I found a lot good info here on the FCC forum.
As of right now, I finished the Wikipedia viewer and and am planning on starting the Twitch API project tomorrow. I started to learn about coding last april 27 and am loving the FCC projects so far! I’ll try to update this post as I find other resources later on the curriculum.
Pardon my grammar, english is not my first language.
Here are the resources. Hope they help you!
-
https://watchandcode.com/ - A vanilla javascript course. It helped me understand how to better organize my code and use objects.
-
https://regexone.com/ - A course on regular expressions. A very in depth explanation on how to match expressions in strings.
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J85lRtO_yjY - Short video on the new Arrow function in ECMA 6.
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-BpqyOT3a8 - Intro to RESTful API
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzVBAgdFbDY - Video of a presentation at the San Fransisco Hackathon 2012 on the Wikipedia API by the guy who maintains it. Very interesting watch for the Wikipedia viewer challenge.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVkR1ZkNusI&t=447s - Series of videos on how to use the Sublime Text 3 text editor. A lot of tips on customization and keyboard shortcuts. Since then, I’ve been writing locally and only uploading the final product on Codepen.
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJesac0_Ftw&t=4s - Tutorial on JSON and AJAX
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPHerhks2Vg - short half hour video, intro to javascript, kinda basic but good intro to DOM manipulation.
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k32voqQhODc&t=318s - Excellent series of videos on the CSS Flexbox. I don’t think flexbox is part of the current FCC curriculum (I haven’t checked the BETA yet), but I found it simple and very useful for CSS layout.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ePVoAgvU1k&t=7s - Series of videos for HTML and CSS beginners. A lot of this is covered by FCC but I still watched the whole series because it helped me understand a few basic concepts that I misunderstood. There is an interesting focus on writing HTML with semantic elements. I also liked the parts on CSS pseudo-elements and styling of forms.
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wesUO81YX0U&t=1s - Series on bootstrap. I watched this between my Tribute Page and Portfolio. It explains the bootstrap grid very well.
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHfbbFxINcQ - Series on Jquery. Very good explanation of the different selectors. Small warning, a couple Jquery functions mentioned in the videos are now deprecated in the latest version of Jquery.
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkTzHEtHd54&list=PL41lfR-6DnOrwYi5d824q9-Y6z3JdSgQa - Intro series on javascript. Again, a lot of this is covered in FCC, but it is a good refresher on the basics and helps cement the basic concepts of javascript.
