Request to active members of the study group

Hi All :wave::slightly_smiling_face:,

I’ve been thinking about how accounts are separate between the freeCodeCamp Curriculum and the freeCodeCamp Forum. In an attempt to bridge the gap between these two separate areas and improve our community here, I’d like to request the following of all active members:

Update Your Forum Profile As Follows…

  1. In the fCC Forum, click your profile pic up in the right corner

  2. Click the gear icon from the drop down, this will take you to your Account Settings

  3. In the Account section:
3a. Add a recent photo to your Profile Picture. This will help us recognize one another at meetups.
3b. Fill out your full name (doesn’t have to be your full name if you’re not comfortable with that—could be a nickname or whatever you’d like others in the group to call you)

  4. From the left nav menu click Profile
4a. Fill out your About Me section (see the Recommended Forum About Me Template section below)
    4b. Fill out your location
4c. Fill out your web site—set this to your freeCodeCamp curriculum profile URL which is just https://www.freecodecamp.org/ immediately followed by your fCC curriculum username, (e.g. https://www.freecodecamp.org/rgroves)
4d. Add the fCC Chicago Study Group Profile Background (which you can grab below). This is optional, but helps promote our study group when user’s visit your profile.
4e. Add the fCC Chicago Study Group User Card Background (which you can grab below). This is also optional, but again helps make our group more visible when user’s click your profile icon.

  5. Click Subforums (under Notifications in the left hand nav), in Watched be sure to add the Chicago tag so that you will be notified of all new posts and topics in the Chicago Subforum.

Update Your Curriculum Profile As Follows…

  1. Open up your fCC Curriculum settings.

  2. Under the Edit Bio tab, edit your public facing fCC profile. When you want to show people your freeCodeCamp work this is generally where you’d point them to, so it’s best that everything is accurate and public:
    2a. Add your name
    2b. Add your location
2c. Add a link to your picture (copy and past a link to your forum profile pic or provide the URL to another publicly available hosted image of you)
2d. Add a one or two sentence bio. Optionally, add the Recommended Curriculum Bio Template Addendum (which you can copy and paste from the section with that name below)

  3. Under Privacy Settings I highly recommend making everything public (except maybe My Donations if you don’t want to share that). Everything else I feel should be public because it shows your basic info (name/location/about) and your progress on freeCodeCamp. This also helps others in the group see what you are working on and what you have completed.

  4. Under Your Internet Presence be sure to add URL to all of the online presences you have (GitHub, LinkedIn, Twitter, and your personal website).

@SilverNemesis - thanks for setting this up in your profiles :+1:

@kathleeng77 - thanks for setting this up!

I noticed that your profile link in your forum About Me section’s web site link does not work. It is set as https://www.freecodecamp.org/kathleeng77 which yields the following message on the curriculum page:

We could not find a user by the name of “kathleeng77”

It could be an incorrect link or it could be that your curriculum profile is not set to public.

Also, if it wasn’t intended, I thought I’d point out that you’re using the curriculum Bio sample in your forum About Me section. If that was intended you can disregard, if not ,use the recommend Forum About Me template so you can point to your post in the introduction thread for people to find out more about you.

Thanks for the effort!

@robertgroves Whoops! :face_with_hand_over_mouth: Didn’t know that! Thank you!
