The Importance of RSVPs

Hello everyone!

Our last three meetings have been cancelled due to a lack of RSVPs to the event. @robertgroves and I put a fair amount of time and effort into planning and coordinating these events, and we ask for a minimal level of commitment from the group. The only way we can gauge participation is through the RSVP system, which is why we ask everyone who wishes to attend to RSVP at least 2 hours prior to the event, but preferably more than that. It doesn’t make sense for us to go out of our way to the meeting venue and wait in case someone shows up that didn’t RSVP.

A quick primer on how to use the RSVP system:
To RSVP click the “going” link that is up in the header of the event post.

More importantly, we have some really big and exciting plans for the group! We would eventually like to have tech companies sponsor and host our meetings, maybe even providing food and workshops for us. We will not be able to make those events happen without a strong RSVP system in place and a committed and active team. (Imagine telling a sponsor that they’ll be hosting a 25 person event only for 4 people to show up - Do you think they’ll want to sponsor us again?).

We are excited and passionate about this group and all the things we can do in the future. And most importantly, we’re a team, and we value your input. What makes the current system difficult for you? Is it confusing to use? Are there too many platforms with information? Are you using one platform but not the other? Are Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings not good times? Would another day/time work better for you? Would you prefer a different location (still in the Loop)? Let us know what we can do to help and improve!
