Are there any obvious errors that I have made.
I noticed that I used css grid to space the timeline towards the bottom which the template example did not do.
Does this create any problems?
It shouldn’t as long as it does what you intended 
Your project looks pretty good! But I would be more creative and make something original rather than an enhancement of existing project.
Your page looks great! There is not much to change.
I suggest increasing the width of the list items to at least 90% when the body is below 500px wide (mobile view).
