My name is Katlyn and I am an ESL teacher in Vancouver. I started learning coding in November 2018 because I want to know more about it, and hopefully use my skills in the future to develop tools for educational technology.

I actually have a few years of experience with coding, but it was 15 years ago and certainly not thorough. At the tender age of 11, I started working with HTML to create guild layouts for Neopets. (So many bonus points to you if you know what those words mean together!) After a few months of doing this, I was completely obsessed and spent all of my time on the computer making these layouts (like little websites) for other people.

I didn’t have any courses or training, I simply looked at pre-made templates and figured out by trial and error what made changes I wanted and what didn’t. I did tutorials as I went to learn more about things that confused me. Hopefully I will enjoy it going forward as much as I did when I was a little teenie.

Now I’m excited to learn more about coding for real and see where it takes me!
