sburchill

I am Scott B. Burchill, Theatre Geek … this moniker given to me by a former employee is perfectly descriptive. I graduated Macalester College in 1985 having written my own major in Computer Studies and Theatre, with supporting courses in Sociology (basically an Arts Management Degree), with a minor in Philosophy. For the vast majority of my life I have been able to put those skills and interests together to earn a living.

The upshot is I love theatre, music, management, technology, and people. I have always believed in the ability of technology to have a human interface and to enhance the way humans interact on a business and social level. A perfect tool to support humanist endeavors.

I enjoy explaining technology to people and was able to put that to use in all of my previous jobs. I taught classes at Prologue Systems User Group (a software company with live event ticketing and funds development system) meetings for 4 years and have been leading professional development of technology solutions in school districts for 10 years. I have taught after school programs in Lego Robotics and worked with student groups in creating and maintaining web sites. My first job out of college included some help desk responsibilities and it seems like any time I have had any kind of job, being a member of the help desk is a part of the job description.

I have also focused on the technical aspects of the art I love, theater. Designing and building sets, designing and implementing lighting, and overseeing others doing those things has been a focus for the last 15 years both as a hobby and as a career.

One of the greatest loves of my life has been making music with my kids who have both blossomed into excellent musicians.

I am fluent in c and Python 2.x and system programming on any flavor of *nix. My current favorite distro is Ubuntu because even though I am an accomplished system administrator I have no interest in spending my time doing that.
